Europe or Asia, where dogs were domesticated? – Clarín.com

For a long time the scientific community discussed if the dog was domesticated in Europe or East Asia. According to a new genetic study led by the University of Oxford suggests that the two streams probably are correct.

The dogs we know today, according to the study-down of two independent populations of wolves, one of which lived in East Asia and one in Europe or the Middle East. Until now, many scientists believed that the dog had been domesticated once and that their population is spread to humans

the team of international researchers led by Greger Larson compared the genetic heritage of 60 dogs that lived between 12 thousand and thousand BC with about 2,500 modern dogs. From there, it appeared that the ancestors of modern dogs in Europe and Asia were developed separately, the scientists said in the journal “Science”.

Origin of research

Parts of the genetic heritage of a dog that lived about 2,800 years BC Ireland played an important role in the study. The striking coincidence with the genome of modern European dogs demonstrated that European perruna population is already clearly differentiated at the time of the Asian dogs.

The cross came only when Asian dogs migrated with people to Europe and they moved in part to the original population. This was also proven by archaeological findings: both in Europe and in Asia there were dogs in the 10,000 BC
