The German authorities accuse Facebook of improperly using the data of its users and also advertise harassment.
It seems that one of the functions of Facebook is not liked by the German authorities, as the highest court said European country has stated that the “Find Friends” of the social network owned by Mark Zuckerberg is illegal, this because they have considered as a tool of advertising harassment.
The function, which mainly seeks your promotions using social network among those contacts in your phone book has been brought invasive and has received the decision by two lower courts. The case was initially filed in 2010 by the Federation of German Consumer Organisations (VZBV, for its acronym in English).
If you have noticed, the official implementation of Facebook, both Android iOS, invites you to find friends in that network, using your address book for matching both emails and phone numbers; but in doing so, the platform sends invitations to emails not detected in its database registered users.
Because the features of this tool, the court stated “Find Friends” as a feature misleading. It should be noted that it had previously found that Facebook violated various German laws protecting the private data of the German citizens, as well as unfair trade practices.
Meanwhile, Facebook has said they are waiting for receiving the formal decision to proceed with the evaluation and its impact on their services.
