The Order: 1886 – The review – GAMERFOCUS

L ondres, 1886, murders have increased and the half-breeds have increased in the city, what happens? Why are these beasts seem more interested in the city? The Order must do something before it’s too late, or else this city will not only lost, but also the world

The Order:. 1886 is the exclusive title for the Playstation 4 which many were waiting since 2013 when it was announced at E3, Ready at Dawn was in charge of the development of this game and with SCE Santa Monica Studio have managed to launch this game in the midst of controversy over the duration of same. Unfortunately for study and for this game that takes several years “soak” the title failed to meet the high expectations usually have around a new IP.

This game tells the story Galahad, Knight of the Order, a legion founded by King Arthur, which aims to maintain the balance between humans and half-breeds . He and other gentlemen will have to unravel the secret behind several murders and the increase of beasts that plague London

Previously, Ready at Dawn had revealed that The Order.: 1886 is based on the Arthurian literature with some obvious modifications by the type of adaptation to the history of the game, which slowly show us characters like Lady Igraine, disciple of Galahad, Sir Percival, mentor of the protagonist, and Marquis de Lafayette, a Casanova whose great heart rookie makes it a close friend of all the characters. However, the most interesting are the references to the roundtable, the grail and Blackwater a “potion” that acts as a super soldier serum.

Similarly, history would spaces other important elements to the plot, as the introduction of the half-breeds (as you call them werewolves and vampires), as old as the creation creatures and have been in constant war with the Order since King Arthur founded; there will be clashes with a rebel group whose purpose is unknown.

Unfortunately, the story is more interesting to look unattractive development and tends to leave loose ends that make it obvious plot holes in the plot. The Order: 1886 has interesting characters, in fact, find that they have a relationship with each other, but also quickly forgotten with the passage of the chapters of the game. Obviously, the film format of the game was not the most appropriate formula to develop the plot, as it tells eagerly events, making despite feel connected independent events. It is no surprise that why we feel that the game is extremely short.

Ironically, like other games on the market, the final hours are the most interesting and have that element suddenly makes everything much more attractive and frantic; however, we quickly estrellaremos screen credits to realize the true intent of this story, have a sequel. This is a bold claim, but the only way to explain the end and the loose ends in the argument is that The Order: 1886 will have a continuation, otherwise every effort to present characters like Nikola Tesla or conflict between the government and the Order (plus a major event at the end) to let them vaguely unfinished would be a total nonsense.

Despite this, the journey through this retro-futuristic London is much more satisfying than it seems and this is due to the magnificent graphic section that has this game. Ready at Dawn managed to exploit the capabilities of the console and created one of the most beautiful titles for the PlayStation 4 (I dare not say the market in general). Each item was specifically intended to represent a dark city, overwhelmed and deplorable aspect and therefore, every detail is important, ostentatious ornamentation outfit The Order and its facilities contrast with the most vulnerable and poorest neighborhoods being hit by Jack The Ripper. Although the game does not enter their own history, the atmosphere does help that we are not disconnected completely, also has its own attractive elements of this alternative view of London, how advanced technology for the time.

Still, this game suffers from another problem that also affects it, the gameplay; I dare not say that was somewhat lower than expected, just not decide on their identity and this is a big problem, the playability of the game is separated into two branches.

The Order: 1886 wanted to be a shooter in the third person and in fact, when he does it very interesting. Shootings in this game are attractive, dynamic and varied by the diversity of weapons. The cover system was designed to give a broad overview of the battlefield itself, each engagement is challenging in its own way, will be enemies to attack from a distance, there are others who get too close, as are those with special equipment that may cause large amounts of damage if we are unprotected.

However, these firing sequences, as well as exploration are overshadowed by the QTE (Quick Time Events). Here you can see one of the intentions of Ready at Dawn, since apparently wanted to focus more on a narrative adventure style Quantic Dream and in that sense, The Order: 1886 itself would have been a cinematic adventure satisfactory. From the beginning the game will receive us with an interactive sequence and thus be along until we finish our adventure; some of these sequences will be interesting, others completely unnecessary (such as moving a lever), but mostly be recurrent and intrusive.

There will be a couple (actually yes. there are two), clashes with the half-breeds , which handle similar to a fighting game mechanics; basically we control two attacks (horizontal and vertical) over the right analog to dodge, action flash on the screen. Interestingly, although both clashes are equal, are a mechanism that gives respite to the constant interactive sequences that both appear in the game

The problem with The Order:. 1886 is that has its own identity with a style of gameplay, as both QTE sections as shooting and even stealth (of which there are only two in the game) feel incomplete by the abrupt interruption of a kinematics, what which also affects the gameplay and the perception of history.

One point that has been widely criticized is the duration of the game, however, its duration is appropriate (about 9 hours in my experience ). No longer imagine this game unless it was deeper and developed, but it is no exaggeration to say that his time is short. Despite this, it does feel it is an adventure with little material produced in the player want to play again, with which also has multiplayer although so well in this game is rather unnecessary.

Do not forget an extra detail, and the special attention was paid to the soundtrack of The Order: 1886 which was conducted by Jason Graves ( Dead Space Tomb Raider ). When it was announced that Graves was involved in the project quickly said each tune seek to increase the suspense and feeling of insecurity and overall this paragraph performs this function because it feels the change between environments, but also you consider them as separate tracks worth listening out of the game for its quality.

This title is far from being a bad game, but you can not classify as a good game. Yes, exploits the capabilities of the console, but feels that it is an incomplete adventure that follows the trend of some new IP last year and running east, is that despite its flaws have the ability to become great franchise in the future if correct problems of the host. Obviously we must bear in mind that another factor affecting the reception of the game was excessive hype that blinded who expected the title.

The Order: 1886 is a hard game to recommend, especially considering that you can leave nonconformist who is attracted to one of the three characteristics of this title, are fighting in the third person, their interactive sequences or its cinematic approach, adding this factor price in stores. Still, it’s a game that can be enjoyed for its visual and sound section, but which is strange that his argument is more polished considering it took nearly a decade of development.
