If Apple has its way in the near future to buy anything simply zoom out to a reader next to the cash register. At a special event held on Tuesday the company introduced the Apple Watch, the first smart watch of the firm, new iPhone models larger and integrated in both payment platform which has the support of major card companies credit.
The event was held at the Flint Center in Cupertino, where the company headquarters is located. It is a historical location for the company. was the site chosen in 1984 by the founder, Steve Jobs, for the presentation of the first Mac and the iMac.
Smart Clock
The star of the event was the new smart watch company, Apple Watch. Will not go on sale until early next year at a price of $ 349 (probably the same amount in euros) . It will be available in two sizes, with a choice of materials and housing, and work as an adjunct iPhone.
Developers can create applications that take advantage of the small screen and an innovative control system that used the watch crown as command , plus the touch function. Apple showed on stage some of the first applications, such as measuring physical activity, messaging tools and of course different faces to watch.
Smart watches have been a focus of recent IFA Berlin. Google, Motorola, Samsung and LG are some of the brands that have tried to take the first steps in a market that many analysts believe the next big personal electronics business but at the moment there seems to have captured the interest of consumers.
New iPhones
The other big announcement of the day were two new models of iPhone. Both with larger screen. IPhone 6 will have a 4.7 inches . The so-called iPhone 6 Plus bet on one of the 5.5 with Full HD resolution.
Apple, which so far has remained one of the few manufacturers high-end phones with screens less than 4 inches, the jump in size is significant. several manufacturers of Android phones already have, in any case, models of similar dimensions or higher.
The resolution of both phones is different but in both cases they are screens “retina” , that is, with a density of pixels large enough to not be possible to distinguish the points that form the eye. Thanks to the higher resolution, the iPhone 6 Plus can display applications with a different organization of content, more similar to that used on the iPad.
Although Apple has always preferred screen sizes more compact the change may be welcome. The market for large screen phones (more than five inches) has quadrupled in the last year, according to research firm Flurry, and now accounts for almost 10% of the market. These models, halfway between a small tablet and a phone, are especially popular in the Asian market, one of the biggest drivers of growth for the mobile industry in the coming years and where Apple does not have a big presence.
The new iPhones will go on sale on 19th September in USA but not reach Spain until the end of the month. Apple will sell the iPhone 6 with 16 GB in the United States at the same price as previous years, starting at $ 199. The iPhone 6 Plus model will cost $ 100 more. These prices, however, are only for phones purchased with a two-year contract with operator, not free. The company will maintain current iPhone 5s and 5c for sale at a lower price.
payment platform
Both products will be integrated into a new mobile payment platform, Pay Apple also announced at the event. Play Apple is virtual wallet solution allowing businesses pay closer phone or watch to a NFC reader installed next to the cash registers.
Apple says credit cards are stored in a secure location of the phone and are not transmitted to a central server. “Unlike other companies are not interested in knowing what you buy or where to shop,” said Eddy Cue, head of enterprise services. Pay Apple does not send the credit card number to trade, but generates a special code for each purchase transaction.
This mobile payment system using NFC has been tested on numerous occasions, and is similar who used a rival company, Google Wallet, but so far has had little success in stores installed. In the USA more than 220,000 stores will be ready to accept payments with Pay Apple, including fast food chains and department stores. Apple has not advanced details on the implementation of this service in other countries.
