BlackBerry launched a new smartphone on Wednesday, as part of the efforts of the beleaguered Canadian company to recover.
The CEO John Chen presented a square phone, big screen, called Passport to an audience in Toronto and is not expected to make any Similar American release. Analysts have said that there is little demand and interest of mobile carriers by the apparatus of the Canadian firm that until relatively recently dominated the market.
BlackBerry has lost ground as smart phone company since the launch of iPhone by Apple in 2007 and the following year the presentation of Android phones.
Chen, who took the reins last year after a failed attempt to sell the company, said the new phone was in preparation before he came to BlackBerry and said jokingly that can only take credit for not deleting it.
He said he was determined to regain market share in Canada, and announced that the Passport will be available in United States through AT & T by the end of the year. He also will be on sale for a limited time on Amazon for $ 599.
The Passport has the approximate dimensions of a passport and has a square screen that measures 11.4 centimeters (4.5 inches) diagonally. The screen is touch sensitive and has a real keyboard, something that traditional BlackBerry users prefer.
Since he became CEO 10 months ago, Chen has put more emphasis on management systems BlackBerry mobile devices, a group of software that allows information technology departments in companies handling various devices connected to their corporate networks.
