The strange object was first detected in 2013 juio if Cassini NASA photographed Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. There, in the greatest sea of the moon, Ligeia Mare, surrounded by methane and ethane, appeared with his strange brilliantly, a mysterious white stain.
What at first appears to be one geological formation, seems to have life. And, with an area of about 260 square km, has already been observed twice ‘comes and goes’ at will with different looks every time
<. b> ISLAND MAGIC
Nicknamed by astronomers ‘magic island’ appears resplendent in radar images against the dark background of the liquid sea, and had never before been seen.
After the first observation disappeared as if by magic, and this August 21, 2014 he returned to ‘emerge’ as it is now known.
is not a defect
The radar team scientists are confident that this training is not a flaw in their data, which would have been one of the simplest explanations. Nor do they see evidence that it is the result of evaporation from the sea, as the overall cost of Ligeia Mare has not changed significantly.
The team believes that the training could be ripples on the surface, increasing bubble, floating solids, suspended solids just below the surface, or perhaps something more exotic.
The researchers suspect that the appearance of this formation could be related to the change of seasons on Titan, while the summer is coming in the northern hemisphere of the moon.
“Science loves mystery and enigmatic with this training, we have an exciting example of the ongoing changes on Titan,”
said Stephen Wall, deputy team leader team Cassini radar, based on the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California.
“We are hopeful that we will be able to continue to watch changes unfold and get an idea about what is happening in that alien sea.”
