According to research children with good memories lie better

This time volunteers for the study were children from six to seven years old, who were given the opportunity to do something They had expressly forbidden. They had been told not to look the answer written on the back of the card trivial whose solution had to give. While they were alone, a hidden camera recorded what they did little. So they could find out who had cheated, although it denied.

They also measured their verbal and visual memory work through specific tests. The results showed that those who lied better had higher test scores on verbal working memory, compared to those who found it hard to conceal their lies more or had not lied. However, there were no differences in visual memory, which measures the number of images can be retained in memory for a short period of time.

The researchers believe that good liars have to take into account a lot of verbal information to avoid being caught. For that they need a good verbal memory, which until now had not been demonstrated.

The study, published in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, demonstrates for the first time the verbal working memory in particular has strong links with lies, unlike the visual.

Although parents usually are not too proud when their children lie, at least now you can console thinking that the best are their lies, the greater also their thinking skills and working memory, the researchers highlighted.

It is known from previous studies that adults lie quite often in their conversations. Some even been quantified. A lie every eight minutes, especially those who have more social interactions, such as salespeople, lawyers, journalists and psychologists

A skill since childhood

They shelffield that researchers thought were interesting to know how and why it develops this skill from childhood and what makes some kids lie more and better than others. And now they want to find out how you learn to lie.

“Our work shows that the thought processes, in particular verbal working memory are important for some complex social interactions, such as lying,” say the researchers, who point out that their study demonstrates that children need to keep many things in mind for her lie not discovered. So they can do better those who have better verbal memory.
