In December 2013, the European Aviation Safety Agency gave the go-ahead the use of portable electronic devices on board passenger aircraft in all phases of flight provided they were in flight mode, now just to remove this limitation.

As You can read the press release about it now both portable electronic devices such as mobile phones may be used during the flight without putting in airplane mode.

This will allow airlines to offer WiFi on board throughout flight, and also allow them to offer the possibility that, once installed the necessary equipment on board, passengers can make phone calls .

As with the use of devices in airplane mode the approval of the standard by the EASA does not mean that automatically apply to all airlines .

Each of them will have to request a permit after carrying out the appropriate tests, permission will have to be approved by the competent authority in each country .

It is also possible that even within the same airline the new rules can be implemented in a model airplane and not in another.

In any case, the crew and especially the captain of the aircraft, always have the last word on whether you can use portable electronic devices and mobile in any of its modes.

So we’ll see how soon disappears one of the last redoubts in which be safe from having to listen to an unknown phone call.

Of course, with the exaggerated rates for these services on board its use may not be too popular.
