Apple Jony Ive appointed Director of Design – FORTUNE

NEW YORK – Apple gave rise to Jony Ive, long his design guru, placing it in the newly created position of Director of Design (Chief Design Officer).

“In this new role, will focus exclusively on current design projects, new ideas and future initiatives,” he said an Apple spokesman told CNNMoney on Monday.

Ive is one of the most celebrated designers of his time. For years he has helped shape the iconic image of Apple products including the iPod, the iPhone and the new Apple Watch.

Now it will delegate the daily administrative functions of two seasoned executives: Richard Howarth, who will lead the industrial design, and Alan Dye, who is responsible for user interface design software.

Ive, of British origin, joined Apple in 1992. A few years later, when he was 30, he was put in charge of the design team of the company.

After Tim Cook succeeded Steve Jobs as CEO of Apple in 2011, Ive was also put in charge of software design company.

In an interview published Monday in the Telegraph with the British actor Stephen Fry, Ive said that his promotion would free him from administrative tasks and focus more on growth global network of retail stores of the firm, among other things.

According to the article of Telegraph , Ive also participates in some of the new corporate campus designs that Apple built in California.
