The Internet reaches only 37.9 of the world’s population – HoyEnTEC

 Internet Access Those who are reading this, ye can feel quite fortunate to belong to a group that only 37.9% of the population belongs. You are part of the third of the world population with access to Internet. Although we believe that the Internet is a global thing and that anyone has access, it is not entirely true, it is more although the Internet is increasing gradually, the growth rate is declining.

According to The latest study published by Internet.org, the initiative of Facebook to collaborate in the expansion of the Internet, entitled “State of connectivity: Report on the global Internet,” according to figures provided by the UN only 37.9% of the world population has access to Internet. Also as mentioned the growth rate has fallen from 12.4% in 2008 to 6.6% in 2014; with these growth rates, half of the world population will continue without internet access until 2019.

The reason that two thirds of the population do not have access to the Internet, is primarily economic. In the report published by Internet.org it shows that 94% of the population without access to the Internet in developing countries. In developed countries, 78% of the population is connected, while in developing countries the average is 32%. Displaying specific cases, in USA or Russia 84% of the population has access to the Internet against Ethiopia and Myanmar whose connectivity rate is only 2%.

The initiative aims Facebook Internet reaches each more and more sites, and is taking action around the world to provide basic connections for free in countries where the economy is not allowed to pay the connection.

There are three major barriers that must be overcome for Internet grows, are: high costs, lack of infrastructure and shortage of content for many vernaculars. For the Internet to continue to reach the most disadvantaged, is essential collaboration from governments, NGOs and the private sector. Luckily, Internet.org already working with companies such as Ericsson, Mediatek, Samsung and Nokia.
