The Debian founder Ian Murdock, a member of the Linux Foundation and one of the greatest exponents of free software died this week at age 42, reported the blog open platform for developers Docker.
“Debian mourns the passing of Ian Murdock, a strong supporter of free and open software, father, son and the ‘ian’ in Debian,” the company said in a statement.
Murdock, German-American, founded in 1993 Debian, a free operating system based on Unix and one of the computers used by programmers and software worldwide.
“The focus of Ian was to create a distribution community to do the right thing ethically and technically,” said Debian.
Murdock was chief technology officer of the Linux Foundation, in 2003 he became vice president of Sun Microsystems until the company was acquired by software maker Oracle.
He later developed systems in the cloud and went to work for the company Salesforce.
Last November, Murdock left the company to join to Docker, an open platform for software developers.
Murdock’s death occurs after Monday published a few tweets about a confrontation with police.
That same Murdock day apparently published a tweet in which he said he was going to commit suicide, although the circumstances of his death are still not clarified. (EFE)
