Facebook listed financial affairs and health as examples of message content that its users would like to keep under privacy, while others mentioned affairs.
Although the idea of just being tested, the company said it will be available in early September.
Neither video nor GIFs (animated pictures) may be shared secret for now.

The service will also feature additional options for report abuse content of secret messages.
Once the complaint is made, there will be a delay in the process of deleting such messages in order to enable an alert on the servers of the company.
“Facebook may never have access to messages unless one of its participants voluntarily report what was said,” said the network office in a technical document.
