Doodle on Solstice summer in the south

Google celebrates hemisphere official start of summer with a Doodle dedicated solstice in the southern hemisphere. In the seven figures of people practicing various water activities appear.

This Sunday entered the summer. It is the season in which the sun reaches its greatest declination respect to the imaginary line of Ecuador. This causes the day with longer sunlight in the south and the shortest night of the year in the north.

The solstices are the times of year when the sun reaches its more or less apparent height the sky, and the length of day and night are the most extensive in the year.

The existence of the solstices is caused by the tilt of the Earth on the plane of its orbit.

In the days of solstice, day length and altitude of the sun at noon are greatest (summer solstice) and minimum (winter solstice) compared to any other day of the year.

In the Antarctic Circle the center of the sun only touches the northern horizon, without leaving. It is the only day that the sun remains below the horizon for 24 hours.
