Today was a big day for Microsoft as it has announced its first notebook Surface Book, the new tablet Surface Pro 4 star and two new phones Lumia 950 / 950XL.

The new smartphones come with a new feature that allows users to use their mobile phones with Windows 10 as if they were real PCs. This Microsoft has launched a database called Display Dock (or Lumia HD-500) that facilitates this process.

Display Dock adapter hardware is easily transportable (64.1 x 64.1 x 25.6 mm., 230 g) that allows users to transform your Windows 10 Mobile phone on a PC with Windows able to use a keyboard, a mouse and an external display.

This was originally called peripheral Continuum dock , because this is the name of the feature in Windows 10 that lets users transform their smartphones to PCs.

Microsoft_Display_Dock_Beside_Monitor_Wide [1] has Three USB ports, one USB port is a type-C 3.1 is placed on the front and It serves to connect the phone and load with 2A / 5V. That’s enough power to provide fast charging and is basically double the USB 3.0 standard (5V, 0.9A)

The other two ports are USB 2.0 and can be used to connect other accessories such as keyboard and mouse ( which can also be connected by Bluetooth to free ports).

Display Dock also has a DisplayPort port, and a HDMI port for connecting an external display.

This accessory ensures rate refresh 60 frames per second at full resolution (Full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixels). The fine print of the web indicates that also supports WUXGA resolution, ie 1920 x 1200 pixels.

The Continuum functionality does not offer a Windows 10 operating system completely, but rather it is about. Users will notice a modified task bar and a bar at the top that shows time and battery.

You can open applications using the standard Windows interface, and the usual key combinations (Ctr + C / Ctrl + V to copy / paste; Alt-Tab to switch tasks) function. However, you can not display multiple applications at once, but each application runs full screen.

You can make calls, send messages, or any other activities on your phone while you use the external display.

If you open an instance of an application that is already open on the external monitor it is minimized on your monitor so that you continue using your phone. This means that, for example, can not use Outlook while on the monitor and on the phone, but you can use WhatsApp on the phone while using Outlook on the monitor.

Not the same experience of a full PC users expect from a Surface tablet, but it allows users universal applications run Windows 10 and Microsoft Office.

In the demonstration that Microsoft has done today, it has seen how thanks to Display Dock can edit a presentation Power Point on a large screen with a keyboard and a mouse connected to a Lumia device.

Display Dock is compatible with devices that have this feature, as the new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Nothing the price and availability of this new accessory is unknown.
