Two huge icebergs break off Antarctica – Daily Mail

Multiple satellites, including European Sentinels have captured images of two large icebergs that split off from an ice shelf in Antarctica called Nansen last April 7.

the masses of ice drift to the northeast, driven by wind, tides and currents. Fortunately, experts say pose no immediate threat to supply routes to scientific stations in the area, as the Italian Mario Zucchelli or Bogo Jang of South Korea, in the Bay of Terra Nova.

However, icebergs may pose a threat to the moorings placed on the seabed in the region that are used by the Antarctic National Program for Italy since the 90s, and more recently by marine scientists from New Zealand .

the ice shelf Nansen, about 50 km long and 25 km wide, it developed a fracture in recent years. ice shelves are particularly sensitive to climate change, which can melt because hot air on the ocean surface and ocean warming needles.
