The BEAM module expanded on the International Space Station. (Bigelow Aerospace)
NASA announced Thursday Module Bigelow Expandable Activity (BEAM) will be fully deployed. It will serve astronauts cabin. The agency will provide television coverage and engineers and team members answer questions both by Facebook as Reddit.
The BEAM module was launched through the cargo spacecraft SpaceX Dragon on April 8 from the station Air Force Cape Canaveral in Florida. The space agency said that is a clear example of collaboration of NASA with industry, allowing the growth of the commercial use of space.
The module is in the International Space Station (ISS) that serves as a laboratory for different research in microgravity, allowing the development of technologies and testing of human and robotic exploration.
the manager will expand the module astronaut Jeff Williams NASA. Once expanded, the space station astronauts will enter the module several times during the trial period will be two years. Thus sensor data will be obtained and assess conditions inside the module.
The module is designed to take up less space in a spaceship, but at the same time provide more volume for live and work once expanded. One of the measurements that the researchers want to make is the level of protection against solar radiation, space debris and also with respect to the extreme temperatures of space.
