Windows10Holo Microsoft is taking Windows Holographic to the general public with a next update of Windows 10, a measure to make it easier to mix physical reality and digital on any PC.

Windows Holographic will be available through a software update sometime in 2017, said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Windows and Devices Group on Tuesday. Microsoft and Intel are working together to provide specifications minimum hardware for PC and headset with Windows Holographic, he added.

It is part of an initiative so that more people use what Microsoft called mixed reality -Bring objects physical to virtual reality or superimpose digital objects in the physical world. Now, Microsoft and covers the second zone with its hardware HoloLens, but is also working with a variety of partners manufacturing hardware and Intel to build the new hardware that works with mixed reality.

The new capabilities they allow users with virtual reality headsets (VR, for its acronym in English) connected to a PC, interact with Windows 10 applications, content mixed reality and virtual reality content, all at once. It’s a great expansion of Windows Holographic, which is currently only available in HoloLens.

The measure is positive for both companies, since the virtual, augmented and mixed reality are becoming more popular, said analyst Patrick Moorhead.

“Microsoft and Intel working together in the mixed reality is a very positive sign and historically has achieved more when the two work together when they do the against each other, “Moorhead said by email. “Intel and Microsoft are not aligned on smartphones or tablets, and the result was negative for both.”

The announcement of Windows Holographic links to the news that Microsoft and Intel are working together on the Alloy project, a wireless headset that uses sensors to carry the VR objects from the real world. Intel will launch a set of specifications open for the construction of a Alloy handset code and allow hardware manufacturers to build their own.

As part of the news, Myerson made a simple demonstration of Windows Holographic running a minicomputer Intel NUC $ 600. The show, which ran at 90 frames per second, is encouraging for those without powerful PC needed to run the current crop of headphones VR high-end sign.
