Google launched PhotoScan, an app for scanning photos – Day One

Google launched to a global level PhotoScan, a free application that integrates the technologies of “machine learning” to scan printed photos on high-quality and glare free ambient light, with the goal that the memories on paper that can be saved in a drawer or exposed in a portaretratos not damaged with the passage of time, highlighted by the Internet giant.

“Not all people have a scanner at home to scan one printed photo, and if you use the phone’s camera, the main problem is usually the reflection. That’s why, this new app eliminates those obstacles and achieved a high-quality image,” said to Télam Maty Sources, Communication manager of Google Argentina.

PhotoScan, available from today on Android and soon on iOS, “it is very easy to use and comes complete with a pillar that was missing to Google Photos, to help the user to organize all of your photos and make them available,” added Sources.

in order To use the app, the person only has to take a picture of the printed image, align it within the frame, connect the four points that will appear on the screen and follow a simple guide in the application itself.

When positioning the mobile device at the four points indicated, the person will be capturing different pictures of the same image that will be combined to generate a final photo in high resolution”, stressed the head of Communication.

“This ability also works on framed pictures or albums with plastic protector,” said Sources, adding that once scanned, the images can be stored on Google Photos, as this application provides a backup with free storage and unlimited.

The quality at a high resolution of the photo is the result of technologies of “machine learning” employed by Google, which allow you to correct the look of the image, rotate it, apply, enhance, adjust white balance and remove the reflection of the light.

“To the extent that the person uses each time more PhotoScan, the version of the photo will be better because of the technologies you will learn in every opportunity the adjustments that must be made”, explained Sources.
he Also clarified that it may happen that if an object is clear and is on a light background, the automatic adjustment may not recognize this situation. Therefore, the person will need to edit it manually until the technology to learn.

“The main objective of this application is to help people to protect digital form, that information, those memories, those encounters with friends, that were recorded on printed photos,” he said.

In fact -he added – there are more “two-trillion printed photos that generally represent important moments of our lives and we run the risk of losing them or damage the paper over time”.

beyond this new app, Google has also introduced innovations in their related functions-editing photos, creating videos and “sharing” smart content.

So, has incorporated the implementation of the “Photos” a image editor updated with advanced controls, which will allow that with a single tap, the person to have access to editions and professional resources easy to find and use.

“deep Blue” and “skin Tone” will be the two new controls to edit the color of the app of Photos, and so the first one will be “perfect for pictures outdoors in which we want to highlight the sky or the sea, for example”; while the second will serve to “adjust with greater precision the tone of the skin.”

on the other hand, the already existing filters to correct manually the image and then apply the style on them in the app of Photos, now were integrated into a single step. And in addition, Google added more than 15 edit controls, including light, color, style, and Pop (which allows you to enhance the image), told Sources.

In connection with the creation of videos, Google has introduced a new series of movie-style “concept”, which will be available from next month. Among them will be the “Lullaby”, a format that includes photos of a particular person in the first few months of life, and others linked with the Christmas and the New Year to celebrate those dates.

With regard to what is called “sharing smart”, Google will make new suggestions “to send the desired photos to the right people”, as reported in a press release.

“With ‘machine learning’, Google Photos, you can create alerts to remind the user to share photos ‘good’ (that are not blurry, duplicate, or with poor lighting) at the right time (after a birthday party and not only the next day),” said the Internet giant.
