The messaging service WhatsApp has stopped sharing the data of its european users with the social network Facebook, a decision that was taken after the heavy criticisms that were issued by part of the people in those countries.
Both platforms are part of the same company and have same owner, so that in the past few months made the statement that the information between them would be shared with the purpose, as they said, to provide a better and more personalised service.
The people were not long in complaining, saying that this decision was against several policies of privacy, in addition to contradicting the previous announcement by the corporation that said this data sharing would never happen.
Since the update to implement the new terms on WhatsApp, that gives Facebook the personal information and the phone number of the users who use the messaging app, the company has had several meetings with eu authorities to treat the conditions of this new data use policy. Since last September, Germany had banned the transmission of information between the two networks, while in the United Kingdom and Spain had started research on it.
The official statement, however, does not say that the transfer will be withdrawn in full, but will only be put on hold: "As a result of our discussions with various agencies over the past few months, we have paused temporarily in Europe the use of data users of WhatsApp for the purposes of product or advertising in Facebook, to give them the opportunity to articulate their concerns and to analyze them".
