Good news, lovers of all things digital: the console PS4 will be compatible with external hard drives, thanks to an update that Sony announced this Friday.
The update, which will be the version 4.20 and available from today for users registered in the program beta, will allow you to connect a hard disk drive (HDD, for its acronym in English) to any of the USB 3.0 ports on the console.
Any hard drive will work, as long as it does not exceed the 8TB of capacity. The HDD allows the storage of information, as well as the installation of video games bought and downloaded from the Sony store.
This is a great news for users who prefer to buy games in the digital format (like your server), instead of physical games. So, you may store in the HDD and let the system files and other downloads needed for the internal hard drive.
in Addition, Sony has facilitated the life of the users to be friendly on this type of aspects. The internal hard drive of a console Playstation is extremely easy (with a few technical skills), allowing to change it for one of greater capacity when the user so desires.
Other changes in version 4.20
The update to come includes other interesting changes, one of them is that users will be able to choose a custom wallpaper. The images can be imported by the user or can be the screen shots of the scenes more impactful during the game sessions.
The quick access menu (which is invoked by pressing for several seconds the PS button on the DualShock), it has received some changes in its design. Are minor changes, but well thankful for — like the fact that the menu no longer covers as much space of the screen.
The tab of Notifications has also received a little hand cat. Now, this tab condenses all the information that was previously displayed in several tabs. So, all of the notifications –such as messages, downloads, or updates– appears in a single window.
Sony says that version 4.20 will reach the general public in the coming weeks.
