Rapetosaurus quickly acquired Adult proportions – Ultimahora.com

The Rapetosaurus is a type of titanosaur, the largest animals that have walked the Earth, with a size reaching lengths up to 15 meters.

So far had analyzed various fossils of this species, but little was known about how were these animals at the time of his birth.

This analysis of new fossils, led by Kristina Curry-Rogers of Macalester College (Minnesota, USA), shows that the younger animal studied, who died between 39 and possibly 77 days of hunger, weighed only 3.4 kilograms at birth and at the end of his short life had already reached 40 kilos.

the researchers, who used histology and scan to understand their growth pattern, concluded that, according to the compactness of their bones, limbs dinosaur had the same way throughout his life.

This is in contrast with other groups of dinosaurs, including theropods and ornithischian, whose limbs had different ratio at birth than in adulthood.

the study concludes that, in the cases of those dinosaurs began their younger life, parental care was important, while the Rapetosaurus were relatively independent after birth.
