The competition regulator EU investigates Google for Android – FORTUNE

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) –

The head of affairs competence of the European Union, which has already accused Google of favoring Internet searches to your own shopping service, said Monday that now it was reviewing its agreements with manufacturers and mobile operators.

the statements Commissioner European Competition Margrethe Vestager, occur after a yearlong investigation on Android, the most popular operating system in the world smartphones, at the request of two complaints.

a decision on Google shopping service could be announced this year. As in the case of Android, it could result in a fine of up to 7,400 million dollars (mdd) or 10% of revenue Google in 2015 and forcing the giant Internet search to change their business practices.

Vestager said large companies should not try to protect themselves holding back innovation.

“so we are looking closely contracts Google with handset manufacturers and operators using the system operating Android, “he said at a conference organized by the authority of Dutch Competition.

” Our concern is that, by requiring phone makers and operators to preload a set of applications Google, rather than let them decide for themselves what applications load, Google could have cut one of the main ways in which new applications can reach customers, “Vestager said.

the Commission said last year that it was also investigating if Google had prevented manufacturers of smartphones and tablets to develop and market versions of Android modified that could have led to competition.

Another concern was that Google had hampered development and market access applications illegally and rivals to package applications and distributed on Android devices with other Google products services services.
