WhatsApp: attempted fraud with video calling – Diario Hoy (Argentina)

WhatsApp became the number one messaging application: while discussions can send audio, text, photos and videos, still does not have video calls. And that’s the excuse now take advantage cybercriminals to try to attack the unwary.

A significant amount of the tricks they use, then just join to offer video calls. Unlike what happened in other cases, the invitation to test the functionality does not come only via WhatsApp message but also through a link on Twitter.

When you click on the link, users are redirected to a website where they were told how to enable this new functionality. The rest of the story is the same as always: if the user goes ahead prompted to invite friends to test the system under the promise that is the only way to unlock

If you do. not only continue to spread the attempted fraud but also be a step away from being a victim. The next hurdle to overcome to fall into the trap is a message which claims that the phone is outdated. To receive the update, the user must enter their phone number … and that is how will subscribe to a premium messaging service.
