The Curiosity robot sent data that can verify the presence of gas on Mars
December 17, 2014 – 11:41 a.m.
The Curiosity robot NASA detected methane on Mars, suggesting that a gas can or could be life on that planet.
According to data collected by the robot, there are low levels of that gas constantly in the atmosphere of Mars, but also registered some peaks where an amount was detected tenfold methane.
These data are interesting for scientists because, for example, Earth 95% of the gas comes from microbial organisms.
At a conference in San Francisco, the team of scientists said the gas may have originated from microbes in the digestive system of a living being, but nuanced that methane can also be a result of geological activity
However, they cautioned that there is a long way to go until its provenance is verified
