Mars reveals regular emissions of methane gas – The Nation Costa Rica

Washington. AFP. The American robot Curiosity, which is mission on Mars, detected there regular emissions of methane gas.

This was revealed scientists, but indicated that they have not yet been determined the source of the gas, which originate on Earth as living organisms.

The results of these observations, published in the journal Science were the subject of a presentation at the annual conference of the union of geophysical Americans, gathered this week in San Francisco, California (EE. UU.).

In August 2012, the robot Curiosity posed on Mars called Gale Crater. From that site and along 20 months, analysis by experts found that methane in that place was much lower than expected. About half of what it was supposed, were to detect

However, methane levels show smoothly.

This gas “recorded spikes in increases tenfold, sometimes even more, over 60 Martian days,” the study authors, including scientific Christ said Webster , the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the National Administration of Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

“These results suggest that methane occurs occasionally escapes or soil near the crater Gale, of Mars, “said the researchers.
