MEXICO, DF, December 21, 2014.- At exactly 5:03 pm began the winter in Mexico, which is scientifically known as the winter solstice, one day a year when the night is longer than day.
According to the Institute of Astronomy of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) the word solstice comes from Latin “solstitium” meaning quiet sun.
At this time of year is when the sun is closer to the Earth but in the Northern Hemisphere rays heat up less by tilting the sun. This station will last 88 days and 23 hours and end on 20 March 2015 with the onset of spring.
