One more year, Telefónica has submitted its Report Society Information in Spain over 2015, with data on patterns, profiles and trends in the use of Internet access over the past year, as well as some comparisons with other regions. These are some of the most important data

  • 27.15 million Spanish Internet access , one million more than in 2014. This represents 78.7% of the population between 16 and 74 years.

  • of these 27.15 million, 81.7% (22.2 million) are connected daily basis . A million and a half more than in 2014.

  • The fastest growth in Internet use occurs in the age group between 55 and 64 years , rising six points to 61.4%. This is a reduction of the generation gap when talking about people connected to the network.

  • Mobile dominates the computer . 88.3% of Internet users access via mobile phone, 5.9 points more than in 2014. Meanwhile, the access from the computer down three points to 78.2%. Last year was a tie that mobile has become unbalanced this year.

  • Mobile dominates our pocket . The “mobile customer base” in Spain, 87% are smartphones.

  • In them there are, on average, thirty applications . Every day there are 3.8 million downloads of apps. Account for 89% of smartphone usage time.

  • TV and console win whole . They were used as an access point to the Internet 44% and 32% more than the previous year, respectively.

  • Early adopters . According to the report, Spain leads the penetration of early adopters between countries in which it operates. Thus, Spain is the first in the ranking with 15.8% of Internet users, followed by 14.6% in Brazil, and then UK with 14.1%, Germany 10.5% and Argentina with 10%.

Young people between 20 and 24 increase these percentages to 79.1% and 68% respectively.

  • Significant increase in consumption videos and music , rising more than fifteen points to 67.5%. It also raises the search for information about goods and services up 69.6%.

  • Messaging also rises . And destroys 93.7% of daily use in Spanish. They also increase banking with 3.9% and dealings with the public administration with 17.7%.

  • A 14% use ad blockers . Another significant increase blamed largely to the early adopters above.

  • Lower linear consumption grows video on demand . According to Movistar, Game of Thrones saw its linear consumption dropped from 51% to 22%. It is preferred to consume the content at any time (the model’s own Netflix series). Only sports events keep interest linear consumption.

  • Spain leads the deployment of fiber optic with over three million customers and a potential that reaches fifteen millions. It is representing an annual growth of 192% and 137% respectively. Spain also leads growth over Greece, Switzerland and Germany UK who complete the Top 5 the ranking.

  • 4G coverage in homes reaches 76% , with data for the first quarter of 2015 representing an annual increase of 58%. In cities of over 50,000 inhabitants, coverage is considered “substantially complete”

Privacy

  • 82% consider privacy as a value to protect . 43% of Internet users (rising to 54.4% in the range of 20 to 24 years old) disconnected or plug your webcam. 64.4% have experienced a security problem, with spam, viruses or loss of information the main reasons.

  • The antivirus dominates as a protective measure , with a 82.8% penetration among users. It is followed by disabling cookies, ad filters, disconnection or capping webcam, and private browsing. 12.4% do not follow any of these measures.
