Iceland: deciphering the genetic code of the whole country – 24 Hours

Scientists in Iceland say they have mapped the genetic code of the whole nation.

Researchers at Genetics CODE compared the DNA of more than 100,000 people with family trees to present the most detailed portrait of an entire population.

Those responsible for the work say they can now find every woman who has a high risk of cancer only to “push a button” and it would be “criminal” not to use this information.

The report was published in the journal Nature Genetics .

The DNA passed from one generation to the following:. if you know all about the DNA of a child and his grandparents, can learn much about the parents too, say the authors

According to scientists, the data can be used by doctors to identify people who are at risk of inheriting diseases and also help isolate the genes responsible for conditions like Alzheimer’s.

Several experts have praised this work, but also suggest that raises doubts privacy issues.
