The Ford brand announced it will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ultimate test of endurance motor racing with its new Ford GT competition, presented on Friday at the same circuit of La Sarthe to compete in Le Mans GT class resistance to teams and professional drivers.
The new competition model is based on the new Ford GT presented in January at the Detroit show. Both the model of mass production as the competition will arrive in 2016 coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the complete podium of the Ford GT in the 1966 edition of the legendary event, the first of four straight.
“When the GT40 competed at Le Mans in the 60s, Henry Ford II sought to demonstrate that Ford could beat the most legendary endurance race car manufacturers, “said Bill Ford, CEO of Ford Motor Company.
The new Ford GT competition will participate in all events of the World Endurance Championship and the FIA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. His debut will take place in
January 2016 in the Rolex 24 at Daytona Florida.
The two teams Ford will be operated by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) and want to share with a total of four cars at Le Mans. The pilots will be announced later
