The Chimborazo volcano steals one of the records to Everest – ElEspectador.com

The summit of the Ecuadorian volcano Chimborazo took the record to Everest, known until now as the point more distance from the center of the planet

This was confirmed one. expedition of French and Ecuadorian scientists who climbed the highest mountain in Ecuador and, through a high-precision GPS receiving signal 15 satellites from different countries, confirmed that 6,384 kilometers away from Earth’s center, the Chimborazo is the farthest from the sun mountain. Everest, with 6,382 kilometers, falls below two less.

According to the scientists they explained, the difference is, specifically, due to differences in the diameter of the planet in these two continental locations. “For the legacy left know us that the points are near the equator are farther from the center of the Earth, but there was a value, measure the largest since the middle distance,” said Mathieu Nocquet, the French Institute of research for Development (IDR), the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

However, we must make something clear. The crown of being the highest peak on the sea level, is in the hands of Everest. In this sense the icy mountain is 8,848 km away, while the Chimborazo is only 6,268 km. That is, 2,580 km below Everest.
