Google celebrates the 41st anniversary of the discovery of Lucy – The Universal

With an interactive doodle, Google celebrated the 41 anniversary of the discovery of Lucy, the fossil skeleton found in a village in Hadar, Ethiopia.

The company Mountain View form its name with the walk and the evolution of man, as he recalls the discovery of the almost complete skeletal structure of Australopithecus afarensis 1.20 centimeters high.

According to the site of the National Museum of History (MNH), the fossil was baptized with that name because while researchers celebrated the finding heard the song “Lucy in the sky with diamonds” by The Beatles.

Lucy refers apparently died three million 200 thousand years ago on the edge of a river or lake and quickly his body was covered with sediment, which allowed its almost complete conservation.

The skull of this fossil is small with jaw in a “V” with a human trait and was the pelvic opening greater than it is possible to determine that it was a female, which according to analysis bone leg, walked upright, so it was classified as hominid, weighing between 30 and 45 kilograms.
