This evening it will be possible to see one of the moons larger than anybody has seen in the last 69 years. So it is likely that by the time you open Facebook or Instagram, you’ll see a wave of photographs that tried to capture the moment.
WE RECOMMEND: get Ready! On Monday there will be ‘Super Moon’ XL
According to estimates by NASA, will be at 5:21 in the morning hour from the City of Mexico when the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth and can be seen much larger than normal. Something that, surely, many will want to capture in a photograph.
So that your decision does not end up being a more of the which only show a white dot, Bill Ingalls, one of the photographers that will capture the super Moon for NASA, shared on his website some tips to help you have a different image.
1. Take your photo with objects that serve as reference standards
"don’t make the mistake of photographing the Moon alone, all will have the same image," explains Ingalls. To avoid this, search for objects, monuments or buildings that serve as a reference of the size. It also recommends interacting with people and make them feel like they are holding the Moon, for example.
2. Looking for the perfect place
Located the best location to capture the moment, perhaps it is the roof of your neighbor or even the terrace of your office, and you’ll need to request prior permission. Ingalls recommends the use of Google Maps and a compass to know which is the best place in which you can place with your camera to get the angle correct.
3. Works with what you have
If you don’t have a professional camera or a lens that would allow you to make a good approach to the moon, make the most out of what you have and use what’s around you to get a good shot.
The photographer of the NASA recalled how, in 2009, when he went out to photograph comet Lulin in the Shenandoah National Park, had a core team while all the others had large lenses. Ended up taking a photograph in the foreground appeared a few branches of a tree and which he had painted with a red light.
The photo was one of the best photos of the space in 2009, according to the National Geographic magazine.
4. Use a smartphone is good
Bill ensures that although you’re not going to have a photo detail of the moon, you can take interesting images. Recommended to do panoramic shots with funds that provide more details of the place and serve as a reference for the size of the moon (see point 1).
"To get the light balance right on the new phones, touch the screen and hold your finger on the moon to lock the focus. Then slide your finger up or down to lighten or darken the exposure."
WE RECOMMEND: The Moon is largest and brightest in 70 years
5. Tips if you are going to use a DSLR camera
Use a camera to photograph the Moon can be a bit difficult, but Bill shares some tips that will help you to get a good picture:
- Sets the white balance to "daylight", to the end the light of the Moon is the reflection of the Sun.
- If you are going to use a telephoto lens you have to balance between the correct exposure and shutter speed, as this should be faster.
- Use a tripod to avoid that your picture comes out scrambled due to the time of exposure.
I Hope these tips help you have a good photo of the super moon.
