On Tuesday last ‘superluna’ of the year will be – ElTiempo.com

On Tuesday, according to the American Space Agency (NASA, for its acronym in English), the planet has a new last chance see, this year, the ‘superluna’ that has baffled everyone twice in 2014.

According to NASA estimates, the satellite will be 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than normal. This phenomenon, known as Perigee Moon occurs when it rotates around the Earth.

In times like today, the satellite is closer to the planet, creating the illusion of which is much larger than normal.

Raul Joya, director of the Astronomical Observatory of the Universidad Sergio Arboleda, explains that this may not be as great as seen in August, and ensures that for there to be the ‘superluna’ requires that the Sun and Earth are aligned, and the Moon is full and at its closest point to the planet, ie a maximum of 379,000 miles away, approximately.

Experts say to contemplate the phenomenon, it is necessary to look to the horizon from 8:00 pm.
