Telefónica is about to launch its Home Gateway Unit, a unique device based on optical fiber (FTTH) able to replace various devices such as optical network termination (ONT), the router and video-bridge, thus preparing the home for the arrival of the quintuple play, including home security and of things (IoT) Internet.
The unit The new device, which has been named ‘fiber router’ will be introduced on the market in Spain in September and then in Latin America, starting with Brazil and Chile before the end of the year.
in version commercial, designed and developed by Telefónica in its Global Development Center devices, a research unit with the aim of leading today’s digital market, and in collaboration with other industry players.
main objective of this center is to develop and certify a broad portfolio of both fixed devices such as Moviles for each business operator of telecommunications, including 3G and LTE, decoders for TV or FTTH devices.
The Home Gateway Unit includes six internal antennas for Wi-Fi -four of 5 GHz and two 2.4 GHz- a FXS port for integrating IP voice services, four Ethernet ports and a new chip designed by GPN Broadcom, among other features.
The router fiber, which visibly reduce cables and devices in the home, has been co-designed by Mormendi, production of software and hardware has had Askey and Taiwanese firms Mitrastar, and integration Wi-Fi Telefónica has collaborated with the California Quantenna Communications.
This unit will support the high-speed Internet in Spain (300 Mbps) at present and future improvements and improved advanced television services with simultaneous recording in the cloud and HD programming.
