Twitter CEO resigns – FORTUNE

MEXICO CITY (CNNExpansión) – Dick Costolo cease to be CEO of Twitter from the first of July this year and will be temporarily replaced by Jack Dorsey, co-founder social network and president of the Council.

“The Council of Twitter has created a search committee to find a permanent CEO,” Twitter said in a statement.

Many on Wall Street demanded the resignation of Costolo over the past year as the social network has struggled to add new members and generate revenue from advertising their products.

Jack Dorsey launched Twitter in 2006 as social networks gained popularity. Quickly it gained traction as an efficient tool for sharing information, especially among communities of media and technology, but has failed to attract new users in bulk.

Under the command of Costolo, the company tried to persuade investors and analysts that innovation will come fast but it was not enough to make a difference.

Recently, Twitter redesigned its website and created lines of automatic time so users have something to do when they create their account.

However, the first quarter of Twitter illustrating continued weak growth. Sales failed expectations despite profits and subscriber growth was in line with forecasts.

Twitter also said it had 203 million active users. Compared with firms like snapchat, which already has 200 million estimated users, investors had reason to doubt.

The actions of the social network rose 8% in after-hours trading.

Dorsey Costolo thanked his work while he was at the helm of the company.
