Yahoo says that 1,000 million accounts were exposed in a new breach of security – Investing.com Spain

(Reuters) – Yahoo (NASDAQ:), warned on Wednesday that it had discovered a new, massive cyber attack by which they had been committed to the associated data to more than 1,000 million users ‘ accounts in August 2013, in the biggest security breach in history.

The number of affected accounts was twice that of the cyber-attack of 2014, which the company unveiled in September and attributed to hackers working on behalf of the Government.

A spokesperson for Yahoo told Reuters that the company has been in communication with Verizon during its investigation of the attack, and hoped that the incident will not affect the process of acquisition.

Yahoo asked all its customers to change their passwords -a measure more severe than the one who took after discovering the previous security breach, when just recommended a key change.

The firm also said Wednesday that he believes that the hackers responsible for the previous attack agreed to its code proprietary to learn how to forge “cookies” that allow them access to an account without a password.

Yahoo said that the incident is possibly different than the one revealed in September and that the stolen information “could have included” names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, data “hash” of the passwords and, in some cases, security questions and answers are encrypted and not encrypted.

The company said that it has not been able to identify the intrusion associated with the theft, but stressed that the bank account information and credit card data was not stored in the system is believed to have been affected.

shares of Yahoo fell 2.4 percent to 39,91 dollars in electronic trading after the close of the session, in the meantime, the Verizon operated a few changes to 51,63 dollars.
