Is there a “mirror universe” in which time flows backwards? – Informe21.com

Two teams of researchers have examined in detail the way in which time flows in the universe, and propose, separately, to 13,700 million years ago the Big Bang could have given rise also to a “mirror universe” in which time moves quite unlike ours. That is, backwards instead of forward.

“Time is not something preexisting explains Julian Barbour, University of Oxford, Quartz- magazine. And we must deduce its direction and flow from what happens in the universe. When viewed in this way, it is natural to say that the time begins in an original point and flows in opposite directions. “

The physical wear fighting for decades with the fact that none of the fundamental laws of physics cease to function if time flowed backwards as it does. And nothing further indicates that there is a law requiring that the time flow in a particular direction. In fact, all the equations that best describe our universe, from the Universal Gravitation Newton to Maxwell’s electrodynamics, Einstein’s relativity or quantum mechanics, work equally well whether time flows forward and assuming it does to the contrary.

Already in 1927, the British astrophysicist Arthur Eddington proposed the existence of an “arrow of time” that acts as a fundamental property of a branch of physics called Thermodynamics. The Second Law of Thermodynamics, in effect, states that in an isolated system (our universe), disorder, or entropy, always tends to incrementrse. So, whether the arrow of time moves backward or forward, things always march toward an increasing state of disorder, or entropy.

In our case, when there was the Big Bang, the universe began as a “cosmic egg” with a high degree of order and very low entropy. But soon the egg broke and everything was quickly rushed to a very high much messier chaotic state, and entropy.

The problem with this assumption is that it does not support backward movement of time the fundamental laws of physics do allow. In this universe you can not go from a broken one whole egg egg, so what’s happening?

We define the future as the universe expands in the direction of time in which the entropy increases. We study the motion of distant galaxies and thus can predict how the universe evolves. And we can, from these same movements, “rewind” and back to our calculations and theories to the very Big Bang, when the universe was much less entropy than now. But if we try to go back even further we have a cosmological puzzle. We can not go further, since the Big Bang was also the point where the same time oroginó.

But Julian Barbour and colleagues published in late 2014 a study that proposed arrow of time that could be governed by gravity, not by thermodynamics. The article was published in Physical Review Letters and described a computer simulation carried out in a “small universe” of only 1,000 particles, all of which are governed by the laws of Newtonian gravitation. The researchers found that, by gravity, the particles could be expanded in several directions, which means that the weather could move in both directions, both backward and forward in a multiverse in which both temporary flows were equally possible .

“This is something simple -afirmaba Barbour in his study. You start on a centraal point where the motion is chaotic, as in the Greek concept of primordial chaos, but then begin to form structures in both directions. If the theory is correct, then there is another universe beyond the Big Bang in which the direction in which time is perceived opposite to ours. “

Now, two physical, Sean Carroll, the California Institute of Technology, and Alan Guth of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have reached the same conclusions using a different model of particles. In this case, the researchers created a finite particle cloud and put it in a hypothetical infinite universe. And they realized how quickly emerged spontaneously two different time arrows. Half of the particles are moved forward, increasing its entropy, while the other half were grouped in the center of the cloud, diminishing its entropy, before starting to move and evolve right in the opposite direction.

For researchers, this central region of low entropy perfectly describes the Big Bang, and further resolves the issue that there was no “beginning of time”, but only the lowest state of chaos, from which two universes could arise with temporary opposite arrows. Although there should be no illusions, because any kind of communication between the two universes is altogether impossible. In the words of Carroll, “. We can never speak to the beings of the Cosmos They are invested in our past, and we in theirs”
