The president of Sina Weibo, Wang Gaofei confirmed this decision on their own and at a time which is also rumored the possibility that Twitter abandon the rule of 140 characters .

Sina Weibo has about 200 million active users (compared to 300 million Twitter), although some Chinese platform has fallen into disuse in recent years due to the rise of WeChat, via mobile application messaging services combining their own microblogs and has 650 million followers.

In Chinese language, many words have a single character and most are only two or three, so messages Sina Weibo, despite having so far the same space limitations that Twitter, could convey a lot more information.

The lifting of the limit shall apply from the 28th oldest users of Weibo, on an experimental basis and a month later it will benefit all account holders on that platform.
