Expectation of announcement about the detection of gravitational waves – LaTercera (Record)

The expectation is given by the press conference today by a group of scientists from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Observatory Scientific Collaboration Wave gravity) to report research on gravitational waves.

LIGO stands for an international experiment that since 2004 seeks to detect these waves directly , of which already have indirect evidence of their existence and which can be study the origin of the universe.

Gravitational waves are undulations produced in the space-time very violent as the explosion of a supernova or the merger of two black holes, which are spread throughout space events.

The theory holds that these waves abound and carry information about the phenomena that originated probably the Big Bang itself which resulted in the Cosmos.

If you could prove its existence, would be one of the greatest scientific discoveries of our time , because the meeting would fill a major gap in understanding the origin of universe.
