Twitter stagnates in user growth – Financial Journal

Twitter could not add new users in the fourth quarter and projected revenue for the first quarter below analysts’ estimates, showing that the struggle of the company to make your site more accessible is affecting sales growth advertising.

revenue in the current period will be US $ 595 million to US $ 610 million, the network said yesterday. That compares with an average projection of analysts of US $ 627.6 million, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Monthly active users were 320 million in the last three months of the year, the same number of the company in the third quarter. Analysts had expected 324 million.

Shares of Twitter have fallen 35% this year amid deepening skepticism about the restructuring of the company under the leadership Jack Dorsey, co-founder who returned late last year as CEO. Dorsey, who took office in October with staff cuts and the appointment of a new president, has been encouraging their teams to make the site more accessible and useful for news and live events, but so far the company has slow to attract a wider audience, and potentially higher spending on advertising that comes with it.

“it is a critical period for Twitter, you need to show something more than optimism,” he told Bloomberg Rob Sanderson, MKM Partners. “It’s very vulnerable right now, and if we go to a recessionary environment, advertising revenue will be more difficult to obtain. For everyone “
