The largest particle accelerator in the world began yesterday, with almost doubled energy, a new phase unpublished experiments in search of “new physics” for understanding the mysteries of matter and the universe.

At 10:40 local the Large Hadron Collider (LHC, by its initials in English ) gave its first proton collisions at the record energy of 13 TeV (tera), after two years of being subjected to remodeling and repairs.

At this time, in the CERN (CERN) in Geneva echoed the cheers and champagne bottles were uncorked.

The LHC, located in a tunnel in a ring of 27 kilometers in the Franco-Swiss border, is now ready to record data of physics that energy of 13 TeV record, almost double the collision energy reached in the first period of operation which lasted three years.

In the first period, the LHC was used to prove the existence of the Higgs boson, also known as the God particle, which is supposed to have a key role in the mechanism that causes the mass of elementary particles.

This discovery won him the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2013 for two scientists who had launched the theory of the existence of the Higgs.

“We now can begin the experience,” said yesterday live on the Internet the director general of CERN, Rolf Heuer, but warned not to expect results in the coming months.

“The first operation of the LHC (…) that culminated in this exceptional discovery [the Higgs boson] in July 2012, was only the beginning of the trip. Now is the hour of the new physics! The first data begin to arrive. Let’s see what will reveal about the way our universe works, “he said.
