Among the “birthday” car there is one that seems to have almost forgotten
Fifty years ago Toyota launched its first sports model. The Sports 800. A small coupe 3.58 meters long, removable roof and 45 horses engine derived from the prototype ‘Post Sports’ presented at the Tokyo Motor Show 1962 which was manufactured between 1965 and 1969, the model was known by the nickname ‘Yota Hachi’ -Toyota eight Japanese -.
To remember this anniversary Toyota wants present at the next Tokyo auto-salon car remember the model.
prototype called S-FR and wants to resurrect the old formula of Sports 800 in both its design and its sports car essence of small but very fun to drive.
The body dimensions are differ relatively little from those of the original 800 Sports.
The new S-FR measured 3.99 meters long, 1.7 meters wide and 1.32 meters high. Their shapes resemble the model of the sixties by the elongated hood, round headlights and taillights, the large front grille, wheel arches and overhangs and curved transparent roof.
While the Sports 800 original was a two-seater, the S-FR offers a cabin with two rows of seats, while the rear bench gives the impression of not having much space to accommodate 4 occupants. The layout of the controls and cockpit retains the sporty minimalism then, only now integrates technologies of the century. It also has a much more colorful custom decor.
As technical characteristics Toyota describes only the engine, coupled with a manual six relationships, is placed in front center position and the drive is on wheels rear, achieving optimum mass distribution to guarantee driving enjoyment. For now it does not indicate whether it intends to propose a model inspired by this prototype street.
