video calls … but WhatsApp will be until 2017.
The Spanish newspaper El País visited the offices of WhatsApp in Mountain View, California, and was there when the subsidiary Facebook company confirmed to the newspaper that the option to make calls with audio and video will be activated for more than 1,000 million users see you next year.
A spokesman WhatsApp told CNET in Spanish that do not give comments on upcoming products.
El País does not elaborate on details about when it will arrive exactly the communication tool or how it will work. However, some users have been able to test this feature and have demonstrated social networks.
More than one user registered in the closed beta of WhatsApp has shown the video call function in WhatsApp. Even the 2.16.3 version of WhatsApp for iOS released in May and included the function in the log (or release documentation), but was not active.
It seems WhatsApp has been testing this feature with a small group of users within the beta program, although WhatsApp has not said why some users have been able to make video calls.
As says El País in WhatsApp seem to have no hurry to add new features to their rivals and have long. Messaging application until this year released a version of the service for Windows and Mac; this year began full encryption of conversations and file transfer; and voice calls came just a year ago.
