Brazil, 24/07/2015 (The People’s Daily Online) – A fossil of a new species of snake found in northeastern Brazil has revealed new clues about dark evolutionary origin of these reptiles. The specimen, which they have named Tetrapodophis amplectus, has very similar to current snake features but has four legs, something so unique moment.

The new specimen was found in an area rich in paleontological , Crato Formation south of the region of Ceará. He lived in the early Cretaceous, made between 146 and 100 million years; and as current snakes, had a short snout, elongated skull and body, scales, fangs, a flexible jaw to swallow large prey and vertebrae structure that allowed him to strangle their prey. The main difference is that Tetrapodophis had front and hind limbs, although apparently not used just to move, but to hold or grasp.
