A citizen of India could be the first human is killed by the impact of a meteorite, reports Indian newspaper ‘The New Indian Express’.
According to the authorities, the celestial body fell last Saturday in a campus engineering in the Indian city of Vellore, where a bus driver for 40 years was killed and three people were injured. At first it was thought that the incident was caused by a bomb.
The Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, confirmed that the “mysterious explosion” that took place in Vellore, in the southern Indian state of Tamil , it was due to the impact of a meteorite. “An accident happened yesterday when a meteorite fell on the campus of a private engineering college in Vellore” said J. Jayalalithaa.
The death occurred on Saturday could be the first recorded in the world because a meteorite, since the probability of dying in these circumstances is approximately 1 in 700,000, according to calculations astronomer Alan Harris.
