Xiaomi Mi Mix: a smartphone of ceramic and with a screen without borders – LA NACION (Argentina)

The Xiaomi Mi Mix has a screen of 6.4 inches, up to 6 GB of RAM and a camera of 16-megapixel.

The chinese manufacturer of mobile phones Xiaomi today unveiled a new smartphone, the My Mix, which has several particular characteristics: the most noticeable is the use of a screen of 6.4 inches without bezel and rounded corners, probably using a panel created by Sharp. That company, now in the hands of Foxconn, specializes in that type of display, including a prototype very similar to that showed at the beginning of this month.

The absence of frame allows Xiaomi to offer a phone in which 91.3% of the front is screen; the majority of its competitors is around 70%, because they need to leave room for the control buttons on the front, or the location where you will be the front camera, the proximity sensor that turns off the screen when the user speaks on the phone (or have it in the pocket) and headset.

To maximise the use of space, the company placed the front camera at the bottom of the phone, next to the capacitive buttons of control (as I had the Nokia N9) and replaced the proximity sensor by one of the ultrasound; and a piece of ceramic (piezoelectric) as an alternative to the speaker front. All of this allows you to bring the screen up to the top edge of the phone.

The ceramic is a key element in the phone: Xiaomi and OnePlus already tested with this material to make special editions of other phones (and Apple uses it in a model of their smart watch); here it is the whole body of the phone. Why ceramic? Because it is very resistant, is light, is transparent to the radio frequencies you need to tune the antennas of the phone and helps to dissipate the internal heat of the computer. The company says it used a system of interlocking similar to that traditionally used in joinery to avoid using screws or glue to assemble the parts of the housing.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix was designed by Philippe Starck and the body is made of ceramic.

the design of The equipment, according to the company, was resolved in collaboration with industrial designer Philippe Starck, who has a long history of associating their name to technology products (mice for Microsoft, talking Parrot and more).

The My Mix uses a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage (for the model of $ 590) and 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage (510$ ) and a battery of 4400 mAh. The main camera is of 16 megapixel camera (with focus detection of phase -PDAF – and f/2.0 aperture) and the front 8 megapixel camera. The screen has a resolution of 2040 x 1080 pixels. It has 7.9 mm thickness, 158,8 mm of height and 81,9 mm wide (almost the same size as an iPhone 7 Plus); it weighs 209 grams. The company will go on sale next month in China.

The announcement was made alongside the presentation of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, a smartphone with large screen of 5.7 inches of curved edges, the style of the Galaxy S7 Edge/Note 7 (and the BlackBerry, Priv, and the rumored Huawei Mate 9 Pro), complete with a Snapdragon processor 821, 6 GB of RAM and and camera 22 megapixel. Also submitted My VR glasses virtual reality with motion sensors built-in to help detect the position of the head of the user; they will have a price of 25 euros.
