42 years ago the first phone conversation was held – RPP News

The cell phone has become part essential to our lives. We made calls, we review our social networks, we communicate by WhatsApp or other applications, all from a device that fits in our pocket. However, does exactly 42, this was an unthinkable idea.

On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper used a Motorola Dyna TAC , which weighed 1.3 kilos and had a size of 23 inches, for a call to Joel Engel, Bell Labs researcher, direct competition from Motorola. From that day everything changed for the world of devices mobile .

“What you do not know from where I call you?” Cooper told his interlocutor, while walking the streets of New York with cell phone in hand. The apparatus used was a prototype that took 10 hours to charge and only had half an hour of battery .

In 1975, there were 5,000 mobile customers on the planet and it was only used to make calls. Today there are about 3,600 million users with a mobile permanently in your hand or in your pocket, and both have evolved that, at present, the call is the option least used by users smartphones .

The evolution continues, as year after year companies worldwide launch new patents to innovate with better designs and functions in this type of devices that have a history of over 40 years.
