China Moon retiring his only inhabitant – Newspaper Zócalo

QUO / China .- ‘Jade Rabbit’, the Chinese Moon explorer who participated in the Chang’e mission, no longer works. This was announced on Wednesday the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense of China.

The first lunar citizen died of old China. At first it was disñeado to live 19 months, but managed to reach 31. Since its launch in 2013, this mission has been commissioned to collect, in addition to data on the environment of our satellite, the first images of its geological layers.

the Jade Rabbit measures just 1.5 centimeters long, but weighs 120 kilos. It is equipped with a radar to study the subsoil, solar panels to power its batteries, a radioisotope thermoelectric generator and high-resolution cameras. Is designed so that it can sense ultraviolet radiation, so you can get data on how the sun shines on the lunar surface.

One of the most recent data released was confirmation there is no trace of water on the moon, which dismantled the hypothesis about the past presence of seas and oceans. “We measured the amount of water on the lunar surface and above it, at the moment we only found the lower amounts” then explained the researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Wen Jianyan.

The existence of water is a key to envisage a future permanent colony on the satellite made. His fourth probe, Chang E4, is scheduled for 2018. And possibly for the next decade will be Chinese astronauts treading the lunar soil.
