Facebook introduces Messenger Lite for emerging countries – teleSUR TV

The social network Facebook launched this Monday Messenger Lite, a version of the instant messaging service, Messenger, designed for emerging markets.

Messenger Lite uses less data and is designed to operate in areas where Internet connections are less fast.

Venezuela, Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka are listed as the countries where Facebook seeks to “expand its international presence.” However, the company said that it will expand to other countries in the coming months.

The company has the focus on the developing markets because they are not as saturated as the western markets, especially North America and Europe.
