Apple has released updates for all its operating systems simultaneously to correct a vulnerability. If you have an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV or Mac, you should upgrade now.
The new version of iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS fixes a security flaw that allows to execute arbitrary code with privileges of the kernel in any of the operating systems. Stated another way, the vulnerability would allow an attacker to malicious to take control of the device.
Apple does not usually make public the details of security flaws they discover in their systems (to avoid being exploited by hackers). However, some experts warn that everyone with an Apple device you should upgrade your system as soon as possible. It is a serious fault that must be corrected as soon as possible.
iOS 10.2.1 and macOS Sierra 10.12.3 are already available. Apple has also released versions of tvOS 10.1.1 and watchOS 3.1.3.
The security flaw affects the following devices. If you have one, upgrade your operating system from the settings menu or the system preferences:
- iPhone 5 or later
- iPad of fourth generation and later
- iPod Touch sixth generation
- The new generation of the Apple TV
- All models of the Apple Watch
- All of the Mac operating system, macOS Sierra
- In the case of Windows, there are also available updates for iCloud and iTunes
